Nice Rundown on the Upcoming ETH Hard Fork - Istanbul

One of the things that Ethereum (ETH) does is have routine hard forks every six months or so.  With the last hard fork, Constantinople, now safely in the rear view mirror (it happened back in March) the ETH developers are stating to look at a large number of ethereum improvement proposals (EIPs).  28 official EIPS have been nominated for inclusion in the next hard fork, named Istanbul and scheduled for mid-October, and yesterday (Friday) the development team had a conference call to discuss them.

Of the 28 current proposed, they discussed about 12 and only approved 1 for tentative inclusion - a minor gas fee change.

Probably one of the most important EIPS, a change to the mining protocol to prevent ASICS, is not looking good for Istanbul:

It is a proposed change to ethereum’s proof-of-work (PoW) mining algorithm, which since April of last year has been susceptible to mining by specialized computer devices called ASICs. With an estimated $655 million annual market for ethereum’s mining rewards, ASICs outperform graphics cards, or GPUs, which developers worry may lead to a more centralized mining landscape.

Of course I thought ETH was supposed to at some point switch over to a proof of stake system from proof of work.  I didn't see that discussed.

Anyway, as a coin Stake accepts, and Eddie rains all the time, I expect we have some ETH fans here, what changes would you like to see in the next hard fork?

I am not too clued up about the technicalities of crypto, and the inner workings thereof. I tend to just focus on the price, and of course, getting free coins on the new blockchain after a successful fork. I am looking forward to the fork, and hopefully all of us who hold ETH will be able to claim some new coins too

hello wryy its may be a good news for us when fork generate a new coins for us,hope for a nice security system with new hard fork of eth.its a good news or alert to kept some eth to gain some profits after hard fork.
