cointikka Posted June 16, 2019 #1 Posted June 16, 2019 You have read or might have heard about Huawei being Black listed from working with US Companies including Google because of an apparent Security concern. So, How on earth Huawei will compete in the smartphone market without working with Google the company that owns Android? It all started in Shenzhen the year was 2012, when a group of High level Huawei executives met at a Villa and decided then and there that a new propriety operating system should be build, presumably the company never wanted their fate to rest on Android shoulders. Within months they created a specialized zone within the company to work on this confidential project, internally known as ArkOS. This project was so top secret that they even had guards on duty protecting the doors and any worker there were not allowed to use their personal mobile phone. This was that confidential and it turns out that this will come handy for the company. This Operating system hasn't released yet, but it is a real thing. It will now be called as HongMeng OS in china and Oak OS in other region. The most interesting part about this OS is that it can be up to 60% faster than Android. According to the statement of Huawei's CEO, it will be available by fall this year, which is when they launch their newer version of Mate 30 pro. Oak OS apparently focuses more on 5G, augmented reality and autonomous self driving vehicles. It is based on android and can also run Android apps. They already have an app store named as APPGALLERY and funny enough they have already started emailing developers to move on to it and most of them will do as Huawei sells millions of phones and developers, do not want to miss out on that market. Since, Oak OS can run Android apps, all they need to do is just to upload their apps on APPGALLERY. Companies like Xiaomi, Vivo and oppo have already started testing the OS. This means no Google services on millions of phone and less revenue for Google in coming years. Fearing the future Google has already started talking to US government. williamshennie9 Posted June 16, 2019 #2 Posted June 16, 2019 It will be extremely difficult for Huawei to make a comeback with the bans from America. They will have to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to promote their product and hope that more people buy their devices.
nuvong Posted June 16, 2019 #3 Posted June 16, 2019 Huawei may ban from using Android by the US, but Huawei can cooperate with any new partners. Huawei is one of the companies that develop low-cost smartphones. Theany has a large number of users so there is no reason to fear that Huawei no longer uses the Android operating system on the device.
Kate Posted June 16, 2019 #4 Posted June 16, 2019 Sad to hear that they just got damn hit hard in their backs but Google had to do it and there was no other option i guess so. But isn't this a general news not crypto related ?
barbaris Posted June 16, 2019 #5 Posted June 16, 2019 Something all pounced on Huawei. It seems to me that they just want to throw it out of the market. In my opinion, it was a good company that developed rapidly and the product they had was pretty good. Now they are alone against all.
poloalto Posted June 16, 2019 #6 Posted June 16, 2019 I think this will be very interesting where Huawei will make market competition even more exciting. if the Huawei OS comes out and turns out to be very good this will make Google threatened. I think the development of Huawei will make a lot of people amazed, where I heard if they developed this together with several companies from China together to defeat American domination.
wry Posted June 16, 2019 #7 Posted June 16, 2019 Good for them! Making their own OS, based heavily on Android makes perfect sense to me. If they are shut out of the USA, then yes, that will cause problems, but I wonder how big of a market it is for them anyway? Not too big I expect, they may even already be banned there. I see this hurting Google and Apple in China and maybe over the long term in other parts of the world, excluding the USA. Remember, Google gives Android away for free to the handset makers, so it should retain its dominance even in areas where Huawei has to compete.
wngo123 Posted August 4, 2019 #8 Posted August 4, 2019 Quote You have read or might have heard about Huawei being Black listed from working with US Companies including Google because of an apparent Security concern. So, How on earth Huawei will compete in the smartphone market without working with Google the company that owns Android? (...) Companies like Xiaomi, Vivo and oppo have already started testing the OS. It turns out that Huawei took nice gamble here Today we know that they decided not to introduce their own OS at least not in the near future. Look like this blackmail works because U.S. administration backed with their sanctions It wasn't a surprise that they began to talk about 'testing' their own OS after Google announced that their services won't be able to be accessed by the Huawei. I actually think it would be great if Huawei introduce their own OS because there should be more competition on the market regarding this issue. Currently we actually have only Android and iOS. Before smartphones almost every phone company had their own OS and competition was good among them. After smartphone revolution everything was turned up side down.
StoneDragon Posted August 4, 2019 #9 Posted August 4, 2019 Fun fact. huawei is easy to hack and they sell u personal info. dont remeber where i did read it
wry Posted August 4, 2019 #10 Posted August 4, 2019 So far it is Apple that is getting destroyed by Huawei in China than Android. As I mentioned above, Google gives Android away for free, so it's not like Huawei making a version of it is a big deal, but the nationalism sweeping China in light of the trade war initiated by Trump has really hurt Apple's sales in China. So it's Apple that has far more to fear from Huawei right now than Google. As an aside it is interesting to compare the reactions of the two populations to the trade war. In USA Trump is condemned and in China the people rally around the nation.
Enzo Posted August 5, 2019 #11 Posted August 5, 2019 Seeing as they're banned from the US (might not be anymore), I find it hard to believe that they'll passup android os. Android is HUGE, they're the cheap alternative for one, so millions of people use it because of that. I use it because i prefer it over iOS and iPhones.
675675 Posted September 23, 2019 #12 Posted September 23, 2019 Huawei is a strong company if they want to destroy Android I like smartphones of their brand, especially like the camera and video quality
