Lillyflow Posted June 20, 2019 #1 Posted June 20, 2019 Ok so- we all know that opportunistic scammers are crawling around ANY casino - its sad but true. Some people can't handle the ebb and flow of winning/losing streaks and it makes them pull stupid stunts. So here is what happened - during a stream. During streams I draw names from the list of Twitch viewers. I picked a name of a girl who had not yet registered at Stake. So I told her to go through the sign up process and let me know her Stake name. Not much time later I got "shout-outs" in chat about a new user with a similar name to hers in Twitch so I sent the winning tip to that new Stake account. Then, maybe 20 minutes later I received a message from her- only the name was different. She had JUST signed up and the other one with close name was a scam. So someone who was watching the stream saw that she was not yet a member... went and signed up a new account as her ... and claimed her prize. JERK!!! This is precisely the behavior that plagues all good things lately and whoever did it is a shitty person. I say this because - dudes. ... I tip out a lot of people during the streams and there are many ways to get a piece of the action - without stealing from your peers. I offer people a chance to help out with notifications before the stream etc- all they would have had to do was ask me if there was any tasks pending for the stream - and if they do the task I would tip it out as a winner - just the same amount that they stole from the new girl. Instead- the new girl (who was probably going to be a great player and addition to our community) got a bad impression of Stake from the very start of her time here. So we all lose. Thanks to the greedy scam that was worth about a dollar. Seriously. It takes a clever person to come up with this scam so why not use those brains in a positive way instead of ruining our trust amongst each other and outsiders too? Foolish freakin' buttheads that steal from each other. Is that what we are? What the heck? Anyone have a good way to prevent this from repeating? Also - I dont want to cave in and tip the same people who have alts active during the stream - and for the same reason. BECAUSE IT IS STEALING FROM YOUR FRIENDS AND PEOPLE WHO DO THAT SUCK. How to bulletproof it? I was thinking that maybe I would require people to post a selfie with a note handwritten saying " I won ____ from watching Lillyflow's stream on Twitter or something. This would slow it down at least. What do you guys and girls think? ( I bet at least 2 replies from same person comes in from alts though - which is the ultimate irony and disrespect - but what can be done?)
wry Posted June 20, 2019 #2 Posted June 20, 2019 Impersonation has been around for many years as a way to scam. Yes the people who do it suck, but it's the internet, the worst kind of scum can access it just as easily as the most constructive friendly people. I think your selfie idea will work, but a lot of people value privacy and so I don't know how widespread it will be. Another easy way to prevent the people from this type of abuse is simply have them sign up first with stake (or wherever you are playing), then they can't manipulate you. Finally, you're awesome to stream and do giveaways, don't let the occasional asshole scammers out there bother you.
wngo123 Posted June 20, 2019 #3 Posted June 20, 2019 Quote Anyone have a good way to prevent this from repeating? Yes there is... Just make a rule that in order to participate in the giveaway the one must have stake account, so they should sign up before the stream or before they join to give away. If they don't have stake account at the time they win then draw the next person. Why would anyone join the giveaway if they don't even have account at that particular casino? I woudn't do that. It's good to help newbies, but at the same time rules must be strict, so situations like that don't happen. Unfortunately there are scammers everywhere, I hope it wasn't some long stake user, but some other person who was just watching twitch and decided to take opportunity and created that account. But yea... people are very greedy unfortunately
Kate Posted June 20, 2019 #5 Posted June 20, 2019 That is a next level of impersonating someone damn feels bad. Sorry lilly you had to go through this. Thats why you should have messaged the person asking if it was her or no.
CntryBoy Posted June 20, 2019 #6 Posted June 20, 2019 Similar things seem to happen almost anywhere these days, with folks trying to impersonate giveaway winners and scamming people out of literally a few cents.... all the effort really isn't worth it, but they still do it. Probably the easiest way would be to PM the winner for their username, as mentioned before. That seems to be the norm, especially on Twitter giveaways these days. It is very easy to impersonate someone by making a nearly identical username, replacing I (capital i) with l (lower case L) and so forth.
echang426 Posted June 20, 2019 #7 Posted June 20, 2019 Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do. I understand the frustration you must feel, I cannot fathom why there are people out there that feel the need to scam others out of 1 dollar but then again I also do forget sometimes that Stake is used globally and 1 dollar for you and I is nothing compared to someone in a country where the cost of living and average salary is much much lower. But as long as there is a way to cheat others out of money, there will be someone out there to exploit it. All you can do for not is mark the alt-account that falsely claimed the prize and hope that no one else will ever tip that alt ever again. I do like the idea of having people verify their identities but as Wry said, people do value privacy so it may bring down engagement with your content. But privacy aside, people may not find it worth sending in verification for small prizes so that could also bring down your user engagement. Again, sorry to hear this happened to you and as much as it would be nice to live in a world where everyone could live a nice and honest life, we just have to hope that we can ignore the bad ones ourselves.
williamshennie9 Posted June 20, 2019 #8 Posted June 20, 2019 Sadly this problem has always been around during streaming, of people trying to claim other user's rewards. Best would be to ask the new user on twitch what her username is, so that she is sure to get her winnings. Pity people have to be like this
Thatisyoursin7 Posted June 20, 2019 #9 Posted June 20, 2019 You should be more careful and do not send the tip right away atleast shout on your twitch channel and ask for hes/her username if that didnt response in 1min then you should go and pick another there are a lot of people hungry from tip (im not even catching a single one tho and dunno whats the problem) so goodluck again and be more cautious next time

Earlier, when Stake was younger and smaller, we were like one big family, but things changed sadly, and now we should be aware on every step...
GKD09 Posted June 20, 2019 #11 Posted June 20, 2019 That's just horrible. How could you steal and that too from such a nice person. Like what's the thought process behind them......... -.- Oh it was a new twitch user. I thought new Stake account. I know you were probably busy and involved in betting etc (race maybe) AND you probably didn't think one would do this. But in this case it would have been best to check her stats and see when she joined Stake. But that's only for this case. For the rest of the streams - I'm not too sure but an easy way would be to tip from the names in the forum. As I have heard you are allowed to make alts but NOT allowed to have more than one forum account per household. Not sure how well that rule has been working. Also adding the extra - Must have over 10/20 post counts perhaps? But then again there are people who join from twitch and from the chatroom. The picture thing would be the best for sure, but also would be hard and not most are comfortable uploading pics I suppose. 33 minutes ago, lupandina said: This part was your mistake Oh yes, and like I said before - its best to use the messages right under the winner on Nightbot. Those are messages from the winner after he/she was chosen. So no other users messages would come there. I really like to have that trust amongst people here but with cheats like these just makes it difficult to Hope we can come up with a solution, sucks to hear about this. You are in fact a great person and hope this doesn't affect your trust towards other good people I'm pretty new to your stream, and I don't understand how one could do this to you JUST for a dollar....... Stay goofy
Qvvaser109 Posted June 20, 2019 #12 Posted June 20, 2019 Find out who they are and tell me...... Problem solved.
hui Posted June 20, 2019 #13 Posted June 20, 2019 Like @wryand @Thatisyoursin7 said the way to prevent this specific type of scam and make sure to tip the right twitch user on stake the best way is to ask them for their stake username and let the person answer on twitch. Update: As I just learned from @maverick528 there also seems to be a way to send pm to people on twitch - that would be a second option then.
nhoyasim101 Posted June 20, 2019 #14 Posted June 20, 2019 that's right scammers are always watching to those kind giveaways,,, and if they can see a chance they grab it,,,, and girl/boy your one of there prey really sad about why this people taking advantages of others who are playing honest,, i think you need to coordinate to mod's before you send the winnings, as far as i know mod's has a knowledge to those alts players who had alts accoun.

elyxdelrey Posted June 23, 2019 #16 Posted June 23, 2019 I am kinda amazed by the many different ways and methods scammers come up with. Can’t deny their brilliant minds and damn are they sly lol. So I guess the way to go about it is to let nightbot select the winners and then have them tell you on Twitch chat his or her Stake username. That way kinda ensures the usernames you tip always come from the legit winners? You can always re-roll if a winner doesn’t let you know the username within a certain timing (I’ve seen people saying some of these are alts so they gotta do what the alts gotta do and switch accounts that’s why they reply slow but idk, they could also be lagging or simply not there). I think asking for selfies sounds like quite a hassle; seems like a too long and complicated process for giveaways and may cause privacy concerns. I find it interesting though not because we need solutions for problems like these but the fact that these problem even exist. I don’t think I would have thought the user with a similar username telling me she’s the winner is actually not the winner... Sounds like you gotta be mindful of everyone and everything nowadays, that’s tiring. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also I watched you stream for the first time the other night and was lucky to win one of the giveaways. 🥰 I really like your vibe. 😊 Although I did have to give you a shoutout on Stake chat for my username as well lol maybe could work on that.
j240 Posted June 23, 2019 #17 Posted June 23, 2019 Hello there Lilly :D, Everyday scammers evolves , they have new tactics every now and then , hope we have more rules or something like one account per ip/computer instead? i received pm's before that they know me and they wanted to give me coins , scammers and impersonators everywhere, oh btw even if i dont win giveaways im still happy watching streams from stake, they make my day and puts a smile on my face , Take care always Lilly and be happy , See ya .
