ceastem Posted July 4, 2019 #1 Posted July 4, 2019 Filipinos are known to have a lot of gambling games. There are some that the Philippine government banned for all ages but people from provinces are still doing it secretly. Haha Examples of these are Video Karera, jueteng, and cockfighting (Yes cocks, male chicken and not the one you're thinking of ) Video karera is a type of horse racing betting game. Some of the youth from different streets secretly plays this and are currently being hunted down in our capital city. They say that these video kareras ruin the future of the youth. Jueteng is an illegal betting game where people from a certain street/barangay bets on two numbers between 1-37. One official roams and knocks at houses to ask for numbers, then rolls the 2 numbers later on, and announces them the next day. It is quite popular because a single bet of 1 Peso can get you 400-1000 pesos depending on the location. This attracted a lot of people since many people here can be easily lured with the get rich quick mentality. Cockfights here in the PH can both be legal and illegal Legal cockfighting takes place in cockpits every week while illegal ones are held in secluded cockpits where authorities cannot raid them. Cock fights are very popular among Filipinos and you'll usually see cocks on cages on streets of provinces. That's all I know from what is banned in my country. Is there any gambling game that is banned in your country for all ages?
williamshennie9 Posted July 4, 2019 #3 Posted July 4, 2019 I think most countries have an age limit of either 18 or 21 years old to gamble. My country does not have those types of betting. We just have normal casinos, horse racing, sports betting etc. Cock fighting sounds quite cruel to me, what are your thoughts on this practise?

I find cockfighting cruel too! I saw it end once and the chicken was all bloody and nearly died. Although I eat chickens a lot, it's saddening to see him at that state They usually polish the nails so that when it attacks, it can slash through the other. It has a lot of climactic events and it usually hypes up the crowd but I don't really enjoy it.
nattekut Posted July 4, 2019 #5 Posted July 4, 2019 Not only in philipines but I think all over the world there is some illegal gambling activities. Like for example in spain there are a lot of ' private' poker tournaments and clubs. As stated in the Spanish regulations it is not allowed to organise real money poker tournaments or games outside the legalized casinos. But this clubs or individuals found some good alternatives to avoid this rule. They for example work with poker points that you can win in games and tournaments. but you need to purchase those points online to participate. And you can exchange your points back to € or resell them to other players that need points to join the game or tournament
Etude Posted July 4, 2019 #6 Posted July 4, 2019 Interesting insight into the illegal betting / gambling available and being done in the Philippines. Yeah the cockfighting betting does seems to be very brutal from the looks of it.

But they are heavily taxed, so many casinos go underground.

S1MPL3X Posted July 4, 2019 #9 Posted July 4, 2019 i saw this article it actually explains alot about iligal gambling and the risks of doing so.human beings love to gamble. We’ll put our money down on spinning reels, card games, tumbling cubes of ivory, horses, dogs, sporting contests, flips of a coin – even digital representations of any of the above. But in an age when legal gambling is commonplace in many countries and online wagering – either legal or illegal -- is just a click or two away, why do people continue to patronize risky underground casinos, bet on sports with neighborhood bookies or take a seat at a card game where the “House” is the guy with the big roll of $20s in his pocket? Illegal gambling conjures up images of elaborate underground casinos capable of being folded up and whisked away in moments if the cops show up, popularized by countless old movies. Some operations do try to live up to the Hollywood stereotype, such as the high-stakes celebrity poker ring that federal authorities busted in April 2013, which hosted A-listers like Yankees star Alex Rodriquez and movie idols like Ben Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio at some of New York City’s ritziest hotels. But the reality is usually more mundane: a few slot or electronic gambling machines in the backroom of a smoky bar, a row of “sweepstakes” machines in an Internet café or a poker game at folding card tables in a warehouse or office, with few of the perks that legitimate gambling operators offer their patrons.

One would think that in 2019, in the age that we live in, that all countries would have banned this practise, but I guess some people still value tradition over cruelty.
barbaris Posted July 5, 2019 #11 Posted July 5, 2019 All types of gambling and cash games for up to 18 years are prohibited and only upon presentation of a document certifying your identity. If people are inclined to gamble, they will not be stopped by any law, and they will still play in a narrow circle or in illegal places.

I don't know why there are legal and illegal ones here though since they both still involve bloodshed. 23 minutes ago, williamshennie9 said: I was actually very surprised when I saw this. Even in the PH there are legal cockfights as I have said in the OP. It just makes me sad, but that's one hell of a cruel tradition. Good thing slavery is not legal anymore.

Including you, I suppose? Haha Well gambling is fun and no matter what they do, people always find a way to do things that are fun. It's not like it destroys people by itself, it still depends on the people themselves so they should not stop us from it cause we're hurting nobody with normal games
