Split and double down,do you follow the chart or go by feel?

I know the mathematically correct play exists for every situation but in live blackjack moments I still second guess splitting eights against a face card. Anyone actually memorized the full basic strategy chart and plays it strictly?

I play by the book most of the time but I do deviate from the best play at times, always following the rules would take away a bit of the fun for me
