The hype surrounding Olympic gold medalist wrestler Gable Steveson was already sky-high heading into UFC 329, but the 26-year-old heavyweight found a way to surpass it. Entering T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as one of the largest betting favorites in UFC history, Steveson needed just 151 seconds to secure a devastating first-round TKO victory over Elisha Ellison.

The most shocking part of the performance? The elite freestyle wrestler didn’t even need his grappling.

The Breakdown: Pure Striking Dominance

While fans expected to see Steveson utilize his world-class wrestling, he chose instead to showcase a rapidly evolving striking game. Training out of the legendary JacksonWink MMA Academy under the tutelage of Greg Jackson and Brandon Gibson—the masterminds behind his training partner Jon Jones—Steveson looked entirely comfortable on his feet.

He dismantled Ellison using a steady diet of front kicks and heavy hands, outlanding his opponent by a staggering margin before the referee stepped in.

Fight Stats At a Glance

Time of Stoppage: 2:31 of Round 1

Significant Strikes Landed: Steveson 41, Ellison 14

Takedowns Completed: 0 (Only 1 attempted)

Professional Record: Steveson improves to 4-0 (all 4 wins via first-round KO/TKO)

"Time will tell," Steveson said post-fight regarding his trajectory in the division. "I'm a great athlete, a great person. I go out and do special things, as you can see. Time will tell that story."

A Future Champion in the Making?

It is admittedly early in Steveson's mixed martial arts journey, but the heavyweight division has officially been put on notice. It is rare for a combat sports athlete with two NCAA Division I titles and an Olympic gold medal to transition into MMA and immediately flash knockout power on the feet.

With Ellison (5-3) dispatched easily, the UFC will likely look to test the young prospect against stiffer competition soon. If Steveson can pair this level of striking output with his already legendary wrestling base, the path to the top of the heavyweight mountain might be a short one.
