The Ballon d'Or isn't a completely objective award, since it's voted on by journalists, former players, and coaches, all of whom can have their own biases. That's why we sometimes see players win it when many people feel they weren't the most deserving. If France had won the World Cup, I think he'd have had a much better chance. But without that, I don't believe the voters will seriously consider him. In my opinion, the voting often follows popular narratives rather than simply rewarding the player who had the best performances.
