Shaniqua Posted December 4, 2017 #1 Posted December 4, 2017 I got to admit I am very surprised nothing has been done about this yet. There is a user with the name "DumbNigger" and is a high roller, which may or may not have something to do with the account being still allowed its original hatful name. But that is besides the point in this suggestion I am wanting to make... I suggest that a list of words should automatically not be allowed when creating an account. I think it is logical to do so, if that is not possible for the account not to be created, then i suggest that something be done about the username ASAP, nothing seems to have been done on the particular case of "DumbNigger" and admins in chat room totally ignored my questions about it. Perhaps stake is okay with such words/names being used to degrade other people and cultures. If that is the case then so be it. I suggest that this kind of thing be looked at more seriously. Mods asked me to ignore the user, and i did....However the issue is that they or other users link his name in chatroom or talkabout him using his name. there is no way possible i can avoid seeing the words dumbnigger come up on my screen. Ive been told not to get political etc.... I just dont think its right... If my suggestion is obsolete please let me know and ill say no more of this... I suggest we make stake a play that everyone feels welcome and that we dont dehumanize one another. Thank you for reading my suggestion.
Snike Posted December 4, 2017 #2 Posted December 4, 2017 Supporters already said they've reported it to some admins and stuff. I still think there should be a button to "Report" a user for multiple reasons. -Racial Slur -Spam -Advertising and so on... Would make it easier to get people muted for specific reason
Shaniqua Posted December 6, 2017 Author #3 Posted December 6, 2017 "Racial slur" Thats the word i was looking for. Thanks Snike.... But its not just the mute aspect... Im sure they are muted... but they appear in the rolls in all bets adn high rollers, and in response users talk about the user in chat room main channel and then the word is spread around for all to see, if that makes sense.
Dan Posted December 7, 2017 #4 Posted December 7, 2017 There is a real divide with regards to this topic amongst the people behind stake's funding and development. There is both an argument for both allowing freedom of expression and then against facilitating racial slurring/degradation. I think that the main consensus is that abusiveness/racism usernames exist because they evoke a response. As with bitcoin, its an opportunity to build a world of change, such as how things should be with any form of negative connotation. The past has demonstrated on numerous occasions that prohibition and specifically acting out on those people who try to evoke attention through rebellion, never really works as a way to solve a problem. Instead our strategy is to try and desensitise such activity by ignoring it and demonstrating that what they are doing is obsolete and meaningless. We are not saying racism exists, but we do believe that words used to express racism and abuse are childish and meaningless. People only allow them to be meaningful by reacting to them. If we desensitise those negative connotations, then the reason for their use becomes nothing. Something we are hoping to help pursue/achieve by our forward thinking.
Grifter Posted December 7, 2017 #5 Posted December 7, 2017 You know what guys, they may cause more trouble if you wouldn't stop on talking about his Name, yes i know it's kind of racist as what they says, but the thing is, why would you interact people or care about in making their names as individual and has freedom to choose what they wanted to create to? Easy to say that yes, this is maybe the problem of stake that they undergo to give freedom to all users to choose their names. All i can say is and hopefully this would get attention to some of our developers of stake that maybe we should not allow now to create this kind of names, also words on chat like "Fucking" or etc. it should be not visible to our very respected audiences, an ofcourse for our new comers/members on stake.... All i can say is, just ignore him, let him play, otherwise he is so silently playing in our site.... im always around trying to observe that name Dumbnigger at the very first time he entered here on stake... And maybe Can i suggest to our admins that Hopefully you got a better plans soon about how to fix this issue about creating this kind of names. thank you and more power to us Stake Community!

I understand your point but on the other hand by doing nothing and allowing it we can also send the opposite message : that using that type of name/words is no big deal and that anyone can do it for fun because there is no consequences with it here. On one hand we don't allow racism/insults/hateful comments in our chat/forum rules so it seem logical to me that we can't accept them in players names. Even if we don't care about him and if he realize that's meaningless, new ones will come later. On the other hands I 100% agree with you that people reacting to it give more power to his provocation. Like I said I'm conflicted about the subject, my 2 cents
