Seoulmate Posted December 27, 2019 #1 Posted December 27, 2019 Have you ever received a small direct tip from someone on stake only to have them then ask you for money? I have noticed this becoming more common at stake so I thought Id write a brief explainer on the concept. When a begger sends you a tip (whether they know it or not) they are using what Social Psychologists call the Rule of Reciprocity. The basic concept or idea is that people respond to a positive action with another positive action, it's a way of rewarding kind actions. If used at the right time it can get you to comply with their real, request even if you dont like them and didnt ask for a tip. Receiving a tip can trigger feelings of indebtedness. You will see this used by companies in supermarkets, they give out free samples in order to get you to buy a product. When waiters give customers mints with their bill in a restaurant, they know the customers will leave bigger tips. When the begger at stake gives you 1 ripple they know you are more likely to reply and also return a tip (bigger tip). Its nice to receive tips from people but when you know its being used as a tool to try manipulate you, How do you respond?
sheenazbay Posted December 27, 2019 #2 Posted December 27, 2019 haha, that's often experienced by me, especially I know that those who give tips are people who like to beg. because several times begging through PM. I immediately gave him more, but as much as I could stay away from them

I've read this during one of my insanely-long exploration sessions on Psychology. Strange, having prior knowledge of it still makes it difficult to apply it to situations like these. I don't think I've ever experienced the exact situation in which someone I'm unfamiliar with, tipping me in the first place. Just a scary thought, if there are players making use of these techniques whilst being fully-aware... 😵
Etude Posted December 27, 2019 #4 Posted December 27, 2019 Yes I really do not like this behavior where it is pretty much intentional for the person to "fish" a high roller and supposedly a person they target because they are trying to get something in return for typically sending the minimum amounts tippable. Aside that too chat lately has been filled with nauseating subtle beggings too which sometimes to the point of sickening.
