This is funny, but I bet it wasn't funny at the time haha. How much was your electricity bill, and how much profit did you make from the coins?!

What kind of computer did you use to mine? Is it on all the time, or at certain times? What kind of money did you make from it (if you don't mind me asking).

How much do ASIC's cost? are there different types of ASICs? I've heard the term before but never looked into it.

The cheaper I've ever seen is 900$ called Bitcoin Miner Avalon 721 6TH but yeah, you can easily find them to prices like barbaris said, up to 5000$

Just adding to the above two comments. There are USB based ASIC miners too. Recent ones are GekkoScience 2PAC(for SHA256 algorithm) and FutureBit Moonlander 2(for Scrypt algorithm). These are cheaper to start with if you want to learn how things work.

Nice thanks sloj I didn't know you could get USB ASIC miners. I just checked Amazon and the GekkoScience 2PAC is out of stock, but FutureBit Moonlander 2 is in stock and only $129!

Any idea how long it would take to recoup the $129 investment running something like the Futurebit Moonlander 2? Assuming say the coin it mines stays at it's current price (which it wont, but just for sake of argument). If you could get the investment of $129 back at some point, this would be cool to try out.

I just found the thread for it on bitcointalk

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2420357.480

The guys that make these things are so clever. It's crazy just how much technology is involved in cryptos.

Good that you found the thread on bitcointalk.org. $129 is too much, don't buy from Amazon, probably someone reselling for profit. Depending on your region you will find the official links to buy here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2141261.0. I pre-ordered 2 Moonlander from Eyeboot from the first batch for $69 each and they might arrive today. Batch 2 pre-orders are going on. These are more of a learning and stepping stone into crypto while accumulating some coins. I will test and tell you later about the expected ROI which is never, lol.

These people are making things which the big players aren't. Not everyone can buy those s9 or l3+.

Mining BTC right now unless you've your hands on some top of the line hardware, some ASIC rigs, and free electricity is just plain dumb IMO. It's way more profitable to mine alts and then convert them to BTC since the difficulty to mine an alt is way way lesser than BTC

:D it can be profitable if u have a great specs or something but if u dont it will just burn your PC

my friend tried it on his laptop and guess what his laptop says goodbye :P

You can mining XMR or other coin with PC, I think MinerGate is the best choice :)

Yeah minergate will autochoose the best coin to mine at the time but the only thing I dont like about them is the dumb minimum withdrawals. Regular mining atleast pays directly

I am too looking to start mining, but the hardware costs me huge, so have to partner with someone who is interested in mining. Some people has told Mining will eat huge electricity. is this real?

from what ive heard and from the little that ive read about it yes, the electricity cost is the basis of the operation if im not mistaken, if youre using more money on electricity than the miners can mine its pointless. but im not an expert on this so im not gonna say im positive. id do some research first then find a calculator tool online where you can calculate electricity costs and hashpower or whatever the variable is.

Well if you plan to mine bitcoins or any other crypto currency then you need to make sure to make a balance with everything

  • Number of hashes per second
  • Cost of electricity, it's not profitable to mine crypto currencies if your electricity is expensive. Most mining is done from countries where power is either free or cheap as shit. So dont bother if you live in a place with outrageous electricity prices.
  • Hardware costs would be quite absurd, you're going to be spending 1000s of dollars on hard ware buying ASIC rigs, GPUs, etc. Also this hardware has a limited life so you need to think of initial cost, replacement cost, and expected life of the item

So for a personal rig hashes are usually low, home electricity is expensive and GPUs die fast under the crippling load. Not to mention you need to spend a lot of cash on cooling

If the Bitcoin price keeps on increasing or it stops at some stage then I am considering to buy the Miner, however the cost was somewhere $1500 and if Bitcoin get problems, then it will be a huge loss for me.

Did any of your friends used ot using it and how much we can make money from it per day?

Yeah very true mate, its really a big loss for you if you continue to mine and price suddenly collapsed.

Well i havent heard someone who profits big already just by mining, all I heard was just by investing.

yeah, me too, but some people told in local forums it consumes a lot of power, however I am still looking to get one in lowest price, do you know where we can buy old or cheaper GPU?

Based on your name I guess you're from India. The second hand shops and many computer shops dump gpus and stuff for really cheap

Yeah I am from India, so do you recommend online store for buying a second hand or should I look for offline. Ive had bad experience in buying offline old PC's.
