Kargai Posted December 15, 2017 #1 Posted December 15, 2017 Seeing some big names like Walmart, IBM and JD.com working together with the Tsinghua University National Engineering Laboratory on a blockchain base project is already an interesting fact by itself. If it's related to a food application in China it's even more ... curious. The project has a main purpose : food tracking, traceability and safety in China, to achieve greater transparency across the food supply chain. Basically they will collect all the datas they can find about the origin, safety and authenticity of food, put all of that in the blockchain to provide a real-time traceability to everyone. One of the main problem actually is the fact that lots of differents people own a part of those informations. This will encourage accountability and give suppliers, regulators and consumers greater insight and transparency into how food is handled, from the farm to consumers. Some tests between blockchain & food were already made by Walmart in the last few months and they showed that applying blockchain reduced the time it took to trace a package of mangoes from the farm to the store from days or weeks to two seconds. The biggest inconvenient i see is that everything will always depend on the informations who are addedd to the blockchain at the beginning of the chain. To assure that all the truth is assed will be the tricky part.
