e_abrams Posted January 16, 2021 #1 Posted January 16, 2021 The European Union has had plans regarding issuing a digital Euro for a while now and it looks like those plans are entering the experimental phase, as testing of a digital Euro have begun in Italy. Those experiments were initiated by the Italian Banking Association (ABI), which is an organization made of 700 local banking institutions. The same group also wishes to begin trials for a central bank digital currency (CBDC). The purpose of a digital Europe, which is in its pilot stage at the moment, is to facilitate interbank settlements, improve cross-border payments, and review the possibility of a CBDC. The ABI announced plans for undertaking such trials a few months ago, back in June 2020. The European Central Bank (ECB) is also close to to starting the investigation phase on the issuance of a digital euro. The plans for it were leaked earlier this year. I have little doubt that the digital Euro will become a reality sooner or later.
Zebiou Posted January 16, 2021 #2 Posted January 16, 2021 Depend on the use of it and restrictions that can be made on crypto, they can easily find a way to impose it I think.
e_abrams Posted January 17, 2021 Author #3 Posted January 17, 2021 Time will tell, I guess. We will have to wait and see.
e_abrams Posted January 18, 2021 Author #4 Posted January 18, 2021 Probably, but that won't stop them from trying, I have no doubt about it. Cryptos changed the world, for better or worse.
