Music Production | Part 1 DAW

I wanted to get a discussion started for all those people who enjoy music production or are interested in getting started. Lets go over a few of the common terms used with music production and discuss the composition styles associated to different genres. I know there probably won't be many who are interested in this particular field, but perhaps the few who are can work together to share useful information, and help others get started.

 

Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)

When it comes to modern day music production, most producers no longer need an entire workstation, full of high end synths and other hardware devices to compose music. The modern era is fortunate enough to have all of the old school technology bundled in easy to use music production software, also referred to as DAW's.

The most common DAW's on the market currently are (by market share):

• Ableton – 27%
• FL Studio – 21%
• Studio One – 18%
• Reaper – 13%
• Logic Pro – 12%

These tools are the foundations of getting you started with music production. I have used both FL Studio and Ableton over the last few years, with my favourite being Ableton due to its slick design and professional live session support. There are free trials available and torrents for those who are interested in getting started and can't afford to pay the hefty price for the software.

i have always been interested in music production , haven't started until now , but will one day ! i will check all of em out and try some of them !

I always loved listening to music, even before walking.

But sadly, never learned to perform any instrument.

So I also got interested in music production. 

Now it is very feasible to do very nice music production at home, without spending big bucks. Some years ago, it was almost impossible.

At the Coursera website ( https://www.coursera.org/ ) I found a loooooot of music-related free education, so I made 1 year ago an introductory course on music production at Berklee College of Music. And there are a lot of other very nice (and free) courses on composition, rythm, Ableton or you-name-it. But you need some free time to do them.

I hope that I get some free time soon so I can start playing a bit with music production and using what I learned so far....

Hi!! Nice club, thanks for letting me join. My name is Gabriel, and I go by 'Stimubate', I also go by the name 'King Virgo' or 'GTKir' for my music in SoundCloud. I hope you guys enjoy just a selected few of some of my shared creations with you.  <3 Here is where I have my music posted, in the below SoundCloud link. 

 

           I come up with an idea for a song by playing around on the guitar and then write it down on paper, then I type in the notes on the paper into a program called Guitar Pro 5 and write even more notes to it after that until I got the basic foundation of it down or something that I like and has been able to communicate how I am feeling that particular day since I am horrible and shy with verbal communication. 

           I then export the song from Guitar Pro 5 as a MIDI file that is then Imported into a program called FL Studio. The song will usually have multiple tracks with notes I composed for each one. I assign each track a Midi instrument using RSE or Realistic Sound Engine to play and give life to my compositions. This is the hardest part because with the exact same notes a song has with a set of instruments chosen can sound like a completely new song using another set of instruments, even though nothing else like the notes has changed. Then I export the finished song as a MP3 or FLAC file etc, And if I need to make any addition edits or changes, I will use Adobe Audition to clean it up some more. 

          I have hundreds a compositions that I have written from scratch, other than the cover songs I made of bands that I like. I do not ever use previously made beats made by someone else or that comes with any program if it is an original song of mine.

My newest creation!!!! Here are two different versions of my song that I have composed, hope you like it. It's different and not mainstream. I think it's sick as fuckkkkkkkk tho! Feel the feelings that i'm feeling if you feel like it. You gotta listen to it with headphones full blast and close your eyes to be hypnotized and taken on a temporary journey into my world. You are safe , My demons won't be able to hurt you while remaining an observer on the outside looking in. Don't interact with Stimubate's Demons though I can not guarantee the safety of your soul at that point, the point of no return where my demons have me bounded in chains, guarded by 2 Guardian Tiger beasts that exist only to guard and devour you or whomever they may. -Stimubate, an ambassador for Gabriel Kirklin.

These were all made with a guitar and the highly underrated Garage Band app. 

Here are some tunes I made - they are all super short and I tried to share a piece from several sounds. The first one is a cool, eerie piano, the 2nd song sounds like an insurance commercial - hence the name - and the 3rd song is just a cutie and the ... emphasis on the last song ... its my fav, so please scroll to the bottom of this post and listen to the marvelous magic. LOL. I made every track - all instruments. A fun mind-bender.   

This may not count in the world of "Real Music Production" Or DAWs because. . . well, I made these using a 10 dollar app and my guitar with a pedal.
