What do slot bonus teases really mean?

When slots tease you 2 or 3 scatters then slides for the last one but no bonus, is there meaning behind it?

 

For me, I either get the bonus at first tease or get teases forever, so I jump to other slots after the first tease.

 

I think the teases hint that there won't be bonus soon, while tricking players that bonus is near.

 

Does anyone have the same experience?

This feels pretty random to me. Sometime its the 2. tease sometimes the 20. tease. Can't really determine a pattern.
