Kargai Posted April 19, 2018 #1 Posted April 19, 2018 Russian government wanted access to the messages of people using the well know messaging app Telegram. Telegram didn't want to let them have it. So 4 days ago Russia climb another step and decided to block the app. The answer of Telegram was to send a notification to their users : “For the last 24 hours Telegram has been under a ban by internet providers in Russia. The reason is our refusal to provide encryption keys to Russian security agencies. For us, this was an easy decision. We promised our users 100% privacy and would rather cease to exist than violate this promise.” Right after that Durov (the boss at Telegram) stated that he will offer bitcoin grants to both companies and individuals alike that run proxy servers and virtual private networks (VPN). And in a big amount since he said he's ready to spend millions on it. What is great is that the Russian market for Telegram is only around 7%, so they can afford to lose that community. But for Durov and his team it's more important to fight for the value they want to defend, they commented that threats to privacy and principles are more important than the numbers. lisizpepla Posted April 22, 2018 #2 Posted April 22, 2018 All restored. Now you can safely use telegraph. Sometimes you have to use a proxy for this
ri1ey Posted April 22, 2018 #3 Posted April 22, 2018 This "sanctions" have rendered a good half of the Internet unavailable for Russia, however, the Telegram itself never did stop working for the residents of Russia completely. Seems like someone need more professional network specialists in their team
