have had luck starting with less rows and any time a corner lands, raising them.  8-12 even to 14 can go pretty quickly but 14+ seems to either hit right away or until no more drops.  single drops sometimes do well and then other times it's mass drops.  hate the animation(physics) on stake though, like there really is a magnet pulling them towards middle...
