xtinepink Posted June 3, 2018 #1 Posted June 3, 2018 There are many gamblers all over the world. In 2016, The Economist rank Australia ad biggest losers among other countries. Even though most of the people go to Las Vegas for casinos still the graph shows their result. What are your thoughts to this? I was looking for 2017 atleast since 2018is just on its half way but negative to find it. Check out the photo below: source: https://www.news.com.au/finance/money/costs/scary-graph-shows-how-australians-are-the-biggest-losers/news-story/4a437cd5f735b87988549b37af12917f
Moderator maverick528 Posted June 5, 2018 Moderator #2 Posted June 5, 2018 I suppose the data is not very precise when talking about online gaming, because for example crypto betting can not be tracked easily....
Administrator Edward Posted June 5, 2018 Administrator #3 Posted June 5, 2018 Damn good job Aussies. We came 1st at something!
Han2x Posted June 5, 2018 #4 Posted June 5, 2018 Checking on the picture means online casino is good than playing on gaming machines. Gaming machines are built to bust you. I'm sure it's not "probably fair".

Well that’s their graph shows online but I don’t know if they actually include the crypto one. Since we know that some people only knew about cryptocurrency lately.Probably they will add it soon. And the shows also that most are in gambling machines. Lol does that mean that it’s rigged playing in machines?

I guess why India is not there in the list... it's sad to lose so much Online gaming accounts for a large amount of Australian gambling losses, however Australian companies can't accept Aussies... Seems stupid. You're right when Australia is essentially just sending money overseas.

But, online Casinos are in grey area cuz, there is no specific law which opposes online gambling.

I agree with you @maverick528. How do they come up to that? Tracking each transactions in the blockchain?

India doesn't consider crypto as a legal tender, when they accept it as legal tender maybe they will make bitcoin gambling illegal too The Public Gaming Act of 1867 makes no reference to online gambling. That's government stance on online gambling is still unclear. Except for Maharashtra ( Maharashtra state issued a statewide law which is against online gambling) and Sikkim. While in Sikkim the state has put a step to issue licenses for casino operators within the state. That's why Majority of foreign casinos welcomes Indians. However, government could regulate casinos according to the information technology act but this too doesn't refers to online gambling. It's the reason why i said online gambling is still in grey area.

I know that it's illegal in India because @Shinjo told me. But I guess online gambling is out of it. So all my Indian friends are still good doing business here.

That's the case. As long as govt dont care we can gamble. 🤣
wry Posted June 5, 2018 #12 Posted June 5, 2018 This is really interesting but I find it hard to believe. So I went and read the article.... Which is itself a summary of another article.... They seem to attribute it to "pokie" machines which are electronic poker machines that appear in many bars and clubs and allow high limit betting. I've been to Australia but didn't hit as many bars as I would have liked, however, I did see these machines. I guess this is a cautionary tale of what happens when you allow high limit machines, that have a HUGE house edge, become ubiquitous in your society.
