jacksonova Posted May 5, 2024 #1 Posted May 5, 2024 Earlier today, during Eddie's stream, I was super excited to hear my post number be drawn for the random post number (#2986, I remember it was called last too), I had even sent a friend a screenshot to show them my post number shown below: The post shows it was made "just now" because after I posted, I always leave the page up so that I can refer to it easily and so I didn't refresh or anything and that was what I used to refer to my post number. But then, while waiting for the prize to be given out, it was taking awhile so I went to go look at my post to see if there was any update and now for some reason it shows that my post number is 2955 Is this possible? How could this have happened? Does this mean I didn't win then?

jacksonova Posted May 5, 2024 Author #7 Posted May 5, 2024 2 hours ago, Subzero said: Yes - 100%. It was a topic a few month ago. Although I searched before (for more specifics about the payout process and) posts number changing, I didn't find much. But, after you mentioned it being a topic, I tried a few different search terms/parameters and came across a number of topics that indeed mention this. Specifically, a similar situation occurred with @Funnygambler in his post Along with @halol2102 in his comment And @csuayb too that I could find But of all those threads, and among others (that were more about the page numbers being picked), the only one of all those threads that had a moderator respond was @betterbebetter to confirm that his prize had been sent. [Then I searched the quoted phrase and found the original moderator explanation, included later below] I also came across the post where you mentioned being a lucky winner /jealous Although not very different from what's already been explained, for posterity, @ralfonso summed it up simply: And equally expressed by @kokojambo1991 Moral of the story It's my own fault for getting my hopes up. I should not have relied on my post number prior to the topic being locked and when it is locked, then and only then should I use the updated post number as a reference. For some time, I had a habit of posting my reply to the thread and leaving the page open until the end of the stream for ease of reference. Despite knowing how to find my own posts, I just felt it was easier because it stayed on the page that I was on and no searching needed to be done. This was my mistake. I was not aware that these changes occurred. At least, not to the effect of changing my post position the way that it does. I would've thought, if nothing else, once posted, the numbers would stay the same (where for moderation purposes, on the backend, any user deleted/edited posts would still have a ghost form, sort of speak, for review and would in theory, inherently preserve their original post number), with old posts being removed having no effect, but it seems I was misinformed. So, I've learned the hard way. I only hope that if someone else comes across this, they may learn from my mistakes and from the mistakes of so many others before them. Thus... The Official Explanation of the Random Post Number Forum Giveaway Forum post numbers and respective post page numbers are not finalized until after the forum thread is LOCKED and moderators have finished removing duplicate posts The only way to prevent post numbers/pages from changing is for all users to abide by the giveaway rules and refrain from posting multiple times. Otherwise, inevitably there will always and have always been people who just can't control themselves and will make duplicate entries that need to be disqualified. (Unofficial) It is presumed that this method allows the pool of entries to be strictly only those who can or are allowed to win. Whereas the idea of disqualifying a post after they've been chosen (so as to preserve original post numbers) creates more complication. Having a fully qualified pool of posts to choose a winners from ensures that no re-roll or re-picking needs to occur, hence the need to remove posts prior to selecting the winners. The above is based on official moderator (by Faris) replies as referenced below:
