You wanna say something, but you're not saying it right. 
We here are not "old" players, but active players, ones who are still depositing and have monthly/weekly income in the sense of salary or some other income. For every casino it is extremely important to keep the current playerbase. 

Old players are inactive players - those who stopped playing. Now interesting part here is why would they send huge bonuses to these inactive players who possibly gave up on gambling altogether or most likely stopped playing because they have no more money? 

I would understand new players also, but this was not acquisition move, they gained 0 new players, maybe reactivated a few old ones. 
To me this seems like: 
1. Accidental mistake - marketing team or the system/software they are using messed up something and sent emails to wrong people
2. Intentional mistake - they gave out 50-100 of these bonuses, maybe spent a 100k, and look what happens - everyone is talking about bonuses and Stake.

What is the point of wagering? Are you guys crazy?
You think stake is going to give you huge bonuses just for wagering? NO. 

I wagered 1.5 mil last month, and i got $900 monthly because i was in overall win, and i am platinum 4. 
Month before i wagered 200k, but i lost 10k during that process, and i got $1400 monthly. 
Conclusion: i wagered 7.5 times less, but got 1.5 times bigger bonus just because I lost. 
Bottom line, losses affect bonuses the most. Wagering for bonus is just an empty story. 

Even if you find "perfect wagering strategy" Stake will ban your account before you get to earn from it. And they can and will do that without explanation. 

Accepting your losses at the very start is a ridiculous thing.
Play to win, not to wager.

Pragmatic has a bunch of those older slots which say 100kx or more, but those are not achievable. For example to get max win on Peking Luck you would have to get best setup of spins and multiplies, and then hit fullscreen wild like 10 times.
And if you see leaderboard of this slot, no one ever hit more then 2-3kx there. 

The biggest potential is with No Limit city slots where you can get up to 100kx, but those are quite rare. 

Fruit Party and Gates of Olympus have 5000x max win, but those come much more often. I've seen a lot of players get it, but only because so many players are playing those. 
Best is not to think of max wins, if it happens it happens, and you'll be well surprised
