job of moderator is to ensure smooth talking in group. Ensure no problem or fight among them. Job of moderator is also to make sure there is no problem , answer their  queries and help with their problem. Speaking from my experience

Yeah, I was muted from chat due to chat jumping as our moderator was not replying properly

yeah, I have been moderator in discord for anime community
