Molly's Game is a solid watch if you want something based on a true story, Aaron Sorkin's dialogue makes even the poker scenes feel intense.

Molly's Game is a great shout, the poker scenes actually hit different with Sorkin's writing. Rounders is another classic if you haven't seen it, tbh it's what got a lot of people into poker back in the day.

Rounders is a classic for sure, Matt Damon and Edward Norton kill it in that one. If you want something more recent, Uncut Gems will have you stressed out the whole time ngl.

Mississippi Grind is a hidden gem that doesn't get enough love, it's got that same gritty road-trip poker vibe but with Ben Mendelsohn absolutely owning every scene.

Uncut Gems really is two hours of straight cortisol, can't even disagree. If you want something a bit less panic-inducing but still with that seedy poker room feel, give The Cincinnati Kid a shot — old school but the final hand is legendary.

Mississippi Grind is such a good call, Mendelsohn is ridiculously underrated in that one. If you end up liking that vibe, California Split is basically its 70s spiritual ancestor.

man i watched mollys game with my dad once thinking it'd be boring lawyer stuff but we ended up glued to the screen the whole night the pacing in that movie sneaks up on you real quick

I finally watched Rounders last monht after hearing about it for years and it really does nail that late night basement card room vibe. The old fashioned way Matt Damon talks about poker made me laugh but it's weirdly satisfying.

i got stuck watching "owning mahowny" late one night with a buddy and we couldnt look away, philip seymour hoffman is so good at playing a guy quietly destroying his life one bet at a time it almost makes you forget to breathe

If you want something a bit less obvious than Rounders, Owning Mahowny is worth it just to watch Hoffman drain the life out of every scene while he chases his own doom at the track. It's not flashy at all, just a quiet spiral taht feels too real.
