The Gambler from the 70s with James Caan is a raw ride and Dostoevsky vibes if you want to see how bad a hole you can dig when you borrow from the wrong people. The book it's loosely based on is even darker and perfect to pick up right after the credits roll

I swear nobody taks about the soundtrack in Owning Mahowny, that constant ringing slot machine noise in the background actually made me anxious during my rewatch a few Sundays ago Pretty sure half the tension in that movie lives in the sound design not just Hoffman's performance
