Most players honestly, almost all of them study using GTO (Game Theory Optimal), which is considered the mathematically optimal way to play poker. I'd recommend starting by learning GTO preflop ranges, since there are plenty of free resources available. Memorize those first, then try applying them in tournaments and see if you notice the difference. More advanced postflop GTO study is often behind a paywall, so preflop is the best place to start.
