Has anyone else noticed situations where someone gets promoted surprisingly quickly, while people who’ve been with the company much longer don’t seem to progress at all?

I recently saw couple people  move into a higher position after being with the company for less than a year. At the same time, there are employees who have been there for years, are highly professional, experienced, and consistently perform well, yet nothing seems to change for them.

What also caught my attention is that this person is in a relationship with another employee who has been with the company for much longer and already holds a higher position.

I’m not accusing anyone of anything, and it’s entirely possible the promotion was earned on merit. It just made me wonder how promotion decisions are made and whether personal relationships within a company can sometimes influence them, even unintentionally.

Has anyone experienced something similar where they work?
