Kargai Posted November 21, 2017 #1 Posted November 21, 2017 Quote A hacker has attacked and crippled the Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) system for a ransom of 1 Bitcoin, or about $8,000 at today’s market value. The attack erased important programs that are necessary for planning and dispatching bus routes, as well as dispatching employees for service. Thing to notice is that now hackers ask for ransom in cryptos and not in money anymore ^^ You ask a small payment now and your larceny will be maybe 10x the value in some years. Commit a "small" larceny, ask a "small" amount and maybe you'll have a "big" reward More details about the story : https://cointelegraph.com/news/hackers-attack-sacramento-transit-system-for-1-btc-ransom
barbaris Posted November 21, 2017 #2 Posted November 21, 2017 Very modest hackers. Probably some school children
wilberthh Posted November 21, 2017 #3 Posted November 21, 2017 1 Bitcoin as ransom.. I think it's kinda low right??! I meant, the hacker won't be able to done this alone right? They probably have a team of 5-10 people... But yeah even a lot of ads pays in cryptocurrency now
Dan Posted November 21, 2017 #4 Posted November 21, 2017 Sounds like they got hit by one of those ransomwares.

I guess you're wrong and everyone is. Hackers aren't what everyone knows they are and their definition of hacker is totally wrong because of the mass media that gives the wrong definition to it. Hackers aren't the ones that make attacks or create issues. Hackers are the ones that find issues and bugs in a system and try to figure out how to solve them. Hackers are programmers with knowledge in security and how to improve it. The ones that make attacks and every article should be about, are "crackers". These are the ones that are using their programming skills to create problems for others. A hacker won't ever hurt people, as they are hired by people to solve their issues, but a cracker would make you problems just for fun or for money without blinking. So in future, don't make mistakes when it comes to "hackers" and "crackers" because it's sad to call someone bad or to hate someone that just makes good and not even know what he's doing and not knowing who is really bad.

Wow! thats pretty elaborate. Thanks.

On another gambling site i used to play at, there was a ddos attack leaving the site unable to be used at all, and they emailed the site owners asking for 10 BTC if they want the ddos attack to end. They didn't get paid, but ddos attack didn't last long anyways. They just really want to scare ya for the btc though. But this is like one step up, threatening the city almost :O!!!
