The Typology of Begging

"The tip to get tipped gambit!" - Not so much a beg, but a "notice me" tactic when someone has won big and is sharing some of their good fortune.  You send the minimum tip to the winner and then encourage them to "check their tip log" in hopes of them sending back an even larger amount to you.

This is clever and risky at the same time.  Sometimes the tipper is so busy they don't notice the tip, but usually if they do they will send back more.  This makes sense since a lot of people check their own tip log to make sure they reciprocate to people who have tipped them!

It has been almost two months but we have a new one today!!!

The THIRD PARTY BEG!  Beg on behalf of another user!  "Give coins to XXX, he has five kids to feed!"  Yet another use for the scourge of alts, use it to beg for your main account or just antagonize other chatters!

Thanks to all who have read or commented on this thread!

One of the funniest threads i've come across.

I will say when I started stake, I was called a passive beggar, when i was honestly just saying good luck and congrats. I was trying to join the community. People were rude and dissuaded me at first.

I remember, after someone said in chat  "thanks rainbot!", one of mods replied: "common, it's bot. It's kinda same as thank your coffeemaker for coffee."

I remembered that again, when Dinabot started to get dozens of begging pm's, and (!) passive tips :D

So, "The tip to get tipped gambit!" in this case sounds same, as beg coffeemaker for coffee by spilling bit of coffee on it O.o

Still, weirdest (or maybe just unexpected) beg in chat I saw, was straight demanding: "someone send me 0.001 btc." Just like that :D

Yeah @Mikehoncho, I'd say that is the biggest change since I came to Stake is the new found obsession on "passive" begs.  Basically it seems like if you ONLY congratulate or say good luck to high rollers that has become a sign of passive begging, as well as constantly whining about zero balances.  I've never seen nor been able to develop a solid definition for it but it's clearly on the rise.

@lupandina now that is hysterical about your exchange bot getting "prime the pump" tips!  Hope it is a nice little side income and it just shows how people stalk Stake's high rollers and tippers.

Thanks to both of you for your comments!

Can I add something new about this begging typology?
"Good luck wishes beg" : some people will type random at the chat and saying "Good luck on you all! or bla-bla-bla" . They can be added as passive beg, but it is so hard to see in the chat. They would saying the good things about his winning, or their losses. It was 50:50 and I don't really know what he intended for.

Can't stop laughing :D

Or, "Faucet successfully claimed xxx BTC" (Oh, you may think, that it can be claimed in another amount lol)

yea i know exactly what you mean.
then again i dont even know whtat to think about it when people do that..
is it the ultimate passive beg or are they trying to just be funny lol

How about when you are a high roller and they start DMing you with "can u sell me your strat for 0.01 btc" which is then followed by "can I borrow 0.05 btc, I'll give u 80% of all profits i make". And the strangest remark I've seen someone say is "congratz to all catchers" following a rain. To think that they'd spend all day on stake just to "catch" rain bewilders me.

  1. The Passive Ask Beg - "No coins to play with, so sad!" Sometimes hard to detect because it is not unusual for players to legitimately complain in chat of busting or having a bad run of luck.  Usually considered a beg once repeated.

I bolded what i want to point out, I heavily agree with this.
It can be hard to detect because legitimate players can complain after losing and they should have the right to express their feeligns freely as it helps to console troubled hearts

But when its done repeatedly especially over a short amount of time, is a good indicator that the person is just trying to manipulate and should be shut up quickly because its unfair to everyone else to bring such uneccesary negativity to the chatroom.

Wry I tipped you and you never tipped me back... no I'm gonna cry til I dieeeee x_X  lol...   Honestly, I there will be beggars where there is money, to be lost. The ones that come right out in the channel and ask for money, get kicked in the face by the first mod to see it... and we all love to see it happen! Most of the other stuff, isn't really anything you can avoid, because that is the thing about passive, is there really isn't any proof of it happening, other than, you know it is happening lol.  You win big, I say, omg grats wryyy!!!  Really, what I mean, is hey you should split half of that with me.... but you can't prove that I wasn't just being your #1 fan 🤑 hahaha....  At times they can get out of hand but, when it doesn't get them anything, they give up just like any beggar, and move on.
If it was really such an issue... I would assume by now, you would just take out the whole public tip all together, and make it so that no one but the person tipping and being tipped can see the tip happen.... and maybe put a couple buttons to the side of it,, so the person who recieves it can hit - like or thanks or I owe you one! or something so they can acknowledge it with out making it a public spectacle. There really isn't any need to everyone to see someones generosity... because all it does it seem to start a freezy of the jealous and envious... just a thought.

My favorite is people saying "busted" and it's throughout the day, like they have to announce every time they go through their last tip..  ;)

The sad thing is that most beggars lie about this, and even having balance they keep saying "0 balance" and "busted", because in the long run somebody might send a few coins so that they can play.

Sometimes is easy for anyone to catch liars, for example they say "I depoed 0.1LTC today and busted all, I need more coins", but you look at the user profile and the total wagered amount is 0.05LTC .......

To be more convincing, some post a screen capture showing 0 balance, but ofc screen caps can be edited, and also you don´t know when was this screen cap made ......

Well, to be honest, there are some users in the chat who, for the last 6 months have commented nothing but "sad day", "busted", "no luck" etc. These users (who I'm sure we all know) are all on my ignore list. I see it as a form of passive begging. They hope that people feel sorry for them and tip them. I would not be surprised if all they do is leave these commented and hoard bitcoins that they accumulate...

I would love Stake to ban these types of people, or at least give them a mute so they will stop.

(though I still thing the CAPS rule is a bit much)

Hahah I think its a well implemented rule. If it weren't a rule or if it weren't as well implemented, players would 100% exploit it. I still do use caps to bring expression into my sentence. For example when I say "Man this is so FREAKIN awesome!" This shows my excitement and a limited and understandable use of caps is allowed I think :D

its always seemed off putting and like an abuse of other people's good will

This is more true than I can express. In chatroom as well as in Private Messages, they always ask for "halp" and I don't like to ignore people for it because I think they might be feeling low in the future and want to talk not about money, but about their real problems. So I don't mute them but I think people need to understand that talking advantage of others and asking for "halp" is just going to reduce their chances of me/anyone ever tipping them xD

I think another form of passive begging is:

6. The "Hey"-Guy: This guy will never talk to you in chat. He will never reply to you in chat but if yo start tipping others or you tip your friends, they will always say "Hey TKO" or "Hello TKO". I never dignify their begging. I never say hi back haha

7. Friend Request sending: I think sending friend request to people has become very misunderstood. People always take you as a beggar first rather than a person who actually wants to become a friend (I judge people that way too)! But I usually accept people who I see being nice in chat ;)

8. DM Beggars: Man this is just wayyyy too high up in the ranks in terms of occurrence. So many well reputed people DM me and say "Please halp i will pay back when I deposit" or "please halp i tip back" like man. Just so they know, me (and 99% others) will not tip you if you ask for help xD I will talk to you, but I will never tip you if you ask! I will tip you if you are nice in chat always ;D

PS. This was a great post! Helps outline what kind of begging takes place and gives clear boundaries to messages of beggars. Thanks wryy :D❤️

I just discovered a new one today!

The "blame deflection"/ hypocritical / "I hate competition" beg - While I work on finalizing the name this one was big today, consists of chatters pointing fingers at other chatters for being beggars, e.g. "So many beggars today!"

^_^ i don't think that they are that many beggars, i think its a conspiracy, i believe that its only a few humans that do it, and that they do it on many accounts, cause if its not like that the world might soon be over taken by beggars, they they multiply when someone gives to them, and once the apocalypse has started there is no way to stop it, so get your supplies ready so you can hide in your basement once that dooms day come xD

I could totally get behind this statement.

On another site I've played on, one person had 47 alts and used no less than three at a time in the chat to beg.

Yes I actually had a thought of the same thing, I think I see someone do this just about every day haha.

I agree it def is passive begging at it's finest most of them don't ever get muted and I doubt they will either but hopefully more people realize and stop feeding them lol.
