ScooterPi Posted September 26, 2018 #126 Posted September 26, 2018 This is my favorite topic on Stake Forum! lol Kargai - u gonna open a book club website? I'll sign up gladly! A couple days ago, I got out an old favorite of mine. W.B. Yeats - A Celtic Twilight If you have interest in old/ancient celtic culture as it's been passed along in family lines, this is a great read. It touches on the fae type folklore of Ireland. But not cutesy glitter fairies like we see so often in media. These fae are powerful, protective, and even menacing at times. Not a book of fictional stories, but rather Yeats' accounting of stories he acquired from fellow Irishman. One of my favorite books ever.

Support Katarina Posted December 7, 2018 Support #132 Posted December 7, 2018 Currently engrossed in reading "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown. "Digital Fortress is a techno-thriller novel. The book explores the theme of government surveillance of electronically stored information on the private lives of citizens, and the possible civil liberties and ethical implications of using such technology."

KiritoCS Posted December 11, 2018 #134 Posted December 11, 2018 Right now I read the original Peter Pan and Wendy not the Disney version but as far this is a really dark story and definitely worth reading.
EpicGord Posted December 22, 2018 #135 Posted December 22, 2018 Confessions of a Mask, by Yukio Mishima. The everyday story of a young Japanese guy whose creepy controlling grandmother gets a weird fixation on him and makes him live with her, in preference to his mother, and rub her feet. (This bit is autobiographical.) He then discovers that he’s turned on by images of handsome unclothed young men getting stabbed or otherwise impaled, as in St. Sebastian. (This bit is also autobiographical.) He then discovers that he’s attracted to tough young men and has fantasies about them suffering violent deaths, and indeed of himself suffering a violent death. (This bit is also autobiographical.) Despite longing to serve in the military during WW2, when he’s called for his medical to see if he’s fit for military service he plays up all the symptoms of the fever that he’s genuinely suffering from, and is assigned to labour duty instead. (This bit is also autobiographical.) Eventually he falls in love with a sweet and demure girl and tries to figure out if he really wants to be married to her or if he’s just fascinated by something about her. He lets the relationship die and she marries someone else. But he still has a lingering fascination with her and clearly regards her as the person he ought to have ended up with. (This bit is entirely fictional.) Interesting and powerful book. I find Mishima’s fetishization of violent death to be more than a bit icky but nobody can say he didn’t live the dream—he committed seppuku after a failed coup attempt in 1970. I read it mainly because I find his writing interesting, and it’s considered to be his most essential book.

VIP Host Jelena Posted January 15, 2019 VIP Host #137 Posted January 15, 2019 Sapiens: A Brief History Of Human Kind by Yuval Noah Harari, trying to educate myself a bit. Since I haven't commented here for a veeeery long time, I would also like to recommend all books by Milan Kundera (most famous novel - 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being'), incredible writer with unique writing style. If you like novels that focus more on the essential and morality rather than on plot. you will love his books.
Support Katarina Posted January 15, 2019 Support #138 Posted January 15, 2019 @JelenaI already brought that one and it is patiently waiting to be read. My next read will most probably be 'To Kill A Mockingbird'. 🙄

cryptofly Posted April 2, 2019 #142 Posted April 2, 2019 What a nice topic ! Books ! How is something as fragile as paper can be kept for hundreds of years because there is an idea shown in ink! Paper & Ink... the pair ! I love reading, and became a book collector. My personal library is full of treasures (treasures because I like my books). This author, Harold Bloom, was the one who show me how important is the reading. I`m always reading something, specially history if my country. I like rare editions and first editions. I do not do novels as I think a novel writer is a liar; everything they write is lies, nothing exists, everything is invented.

cryptofly Posted April 28, 2019 #144 Posted April 28, 2019 I have in my hands right now the book "Genius" by Harold Bloom. He is one of the most important literature critics. Reading it is not easy at first, but as you progress it becomes a very interesting one.
